The Italian Garden
We added the Italian Garden in May, 2019 from items that we already had on the farm. Check out some of the details below.
Fern Bed
Most of these ferns were growing in our greenhouse. Many of them came from the grotto behind Paul’s parents house in Macon, GA
Southern Woods Ferns surrounding a pecan tree…
A new fiddle head emerging. These ferns are happy here!
Our inspiration for the brick floor came from a trip we took to Italy in 2018. We were amazed by the geometric patterns made from tiles on so many of the floors.
Many of the bricks are repurposed from the old jail in Fort Valley. The city was in the process of tearing down the building which was about 100 years old. We asked if we could have some of the old bricks and they said please haul them away… So we did. We spent several days laying out patterns and Delise lay each brick in a pattern that reminded us of some beautiful floors we had seen in Italy.
If you look closely, you will see some fingerprints in some of the bricks on the terrace. These brick are from one of the fireplaces that we removed from the house when we put on the metal roof. They were made by hand, probably in the 1860’s. When you visit the farm, see if you can locate the fingerprints.
And now some photos of our inspiration…
